UPSC CDS (II) 2024: Age Limit

The official CDS notification pdf contains information about the age limit in detail, which is also included below.

(i) For IMA: Only single male candidates who were born between July 2, 2001, and July 1, 2006, are eligible.

(ii) Only single male candidates born between July 2, 2001, and July 1, 2006, are eligible to apply to the Indian Naval Academy.

(iii) For the Air Force Academy: 20 to 24 years old as of July 1, 2025, meaning they were born between July 2, 2001, and July 1, 2005. 


UPSC CDS (II) 2024: Education Qualifications

For the I.M.A. and Officers' Training Academy, a recognized university graduate degree in any discipline is required, or its equivalent.

For admission to the Indian Naval Academy, a candidate must have earned their engineering degree from an accredited university or institution.

For admission to the Air Force Academy, a candidate must possess either a bachelor's degree in engineering or physics and mathematics at the 10+2 level from an accredited university.


UPSC CDS (II) 2024: Application Fee

All enrolled candidates must pay the UPSC CDS application fee, which may be done in cash at any SBI branch or online by any bank's Internet banking service, Visa, Master, Rupay, credit, debit, or UPI card. The following online fees are applied by the UPSC CDS category-wise.

Crucial Points To Remember When Completing the Exam Form

i) Women candidates should prioritize OTA over all other options since they are exclusively eligible for OTA.

ii) Male candidates should designate OTA as their only option if they are vying for an Army Short Service Commission.

iii) Male candidates vying for spots in the Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Short Service Commission Course at OTA and Permanent Commission Course at IMA should designate OTA as their last choice; if they don't, OTA will be assumed to be their last choice, regardless of whether they give it a higher preference.

iv) Candidates wishing to enroll at the Air Force Academy must designate AFA as their top choice, as they must undergo the Computer Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and/or AF Medicals at the Institute of Aviation Medicines, Central Establishment. Any choice made for AFA that ranks second, third, etc. will be deemed invalid.


UPSC CDS (II) 2024: Physical Standards

Applicants for admission to the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2024, must meet certain physical requirements. 

1. For male candidates, a minimum height of 157 cm is acceptable.

2. The applicants' heights for the Navy are 157 cm, the Air Force are 162.5 cm, and the female candidates are 152 cm.

3. A minimum height of 152 cm is necessary for Gorkhas and candidates from the Garhwal and Kumaon hills in northeastern India.

4. The minimum height required for tribal members from the Ladhakh Region, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, and Minicoy Islands, as well as exceptionally gifted athletes, is 155 cm.

5. The ideal Body Mass Index (BMI) is less than 25.

6. For males and females, the waist to hip ratio should be less than 0.9 and 0.8, respectively.

7. For men and women, respectively, the waist circumference should be less than 90 cm and 80 cm.


Marital Status and Sex:

• Only single men may apply for the CDS Exam at the Indian Military Academy and Indian Naval Academy.

• Married and single males may apply to the Indian Air Force Academy; however, marriage during training is prohibited.

• Single men and women may apply to the Officer Training Academy to take the CDS exam.


UPSC CDS (II) 2024: Selection Process

The following criteria will be used in the hiring process for AFA, IMA, INA, and Officers Training Academy posts:

Step 1: Written Exam: To select applicants for the interview exam, the UPSC will administer the CDS written exam. There are just objective-type questions on the written test. Topics included in the test were elementary mathematics and general knowledge.

Step 2: SSB Interview/Personality Test: Applicants who pass the written exam will be invited to the Service Selection Board to take an intelligence and personality test, depending on which service they would like to apply for. This phase evaluates candidates' officer-like traits, leadership abilities, and fitness for a career in the armed forces. There will be two phases to the exam. Exams like the officer intellect rating, picture perception, and description are part of stage 1.In stage two, there is a conference, group testing exercises, interview, and psychological test.

Step 3: Document Verification: Applicants will be required to present original documentation for validation, such as proof of age, educational records, and other pertinent documents filled out on the application.

Step 4: Medical Examination: Those who pass the personality test and interview move on to the next round of testing, which is a careful medical examination performed by Armed Forces Medical Services. The purpose of the medical examination is to confirm that the candidate is free from illness, disability, or syndrome and is in good physical and mental health.
